Closing the Disability Price Gap - Georgina Colman on Building Purpl for the People Who Need It Most
Georgina Colman is the founder of Purpl, a UK-based members-only discount platform created specifically for disabled people and those living with long-term health conditions. Her motivation was deeply personal - having experienced disability firsthand, she understood the hidden financial pressure that comes with it, and recognised a gap that no existing platform was filling.
Purpl was built on a simple but powerful idea: that disabled people deserve access to savings just as much as students or NHS workers do. The platform offers exclusive discounts across categories including fashion, travel, wellbeing, mobility, technology and more - helping members reduce everyday costs and free up money for what genuinely improves their lives.
But the vision extends well beyond discounts. Georgina is building Purpl into a trusted community hub where members can access advice, find support, discover disability-friendly brands, and feel seen. With a community grant fund already launched and a future foundation in development, she is focused on creating something that gives back - not just saves money.
1. What inspired you to start?
I was inspired to start Purpl through my own lived experience of disability and the extra costs that come with it. When you are disabled or living with a long term health condition, everyday life can cost more, from heating and travel to clothing, mobility aids, wellbeing products, therapies and essential services.
I could see there were discount platforms for students, NHS workers and other groups, but nothing that truly recognised the financial pressure disabled people face every day. I wanted to create something practical, positive and genuinely useful - a place that helps disabled people save money while also making them feel seen, valued and supported.
A big part of my motivation was wanting to help people access the things that could improve their health, wellbeing and daily life, but which they might not otherwise afford. Reducing everyday outgoings means people have more money left for what they really need, whether that is support, products, services, mobility, self-care or simply making life a little easier.
Purpl started with discounts, but the vision has always been much bigger. I want it to become the one-stop place disabled people and people with long-term health conditions know they can come to for savings, advice, signposting, support and community.
2. What problem are you solving?
Purpl is helping to tackle the disability price gap. People with disabilities and those with long term health conditions often face higher costs just to live safely, comfortably and independently, yet they are frequently excluded from mainstream savings.
We are solving this by giving eligible members access to exclusive discounts and offers across everyday categories such as fashion, travel, home, mobility, wellbeing, technology and more. By helping people reduce their outgoings, we hope to free up money for the things that can make a genuine difference to their health, independence and quality of life.
But Purpl is about more than discounts. We are building a trusted platform where people can find practical advice, be signposted to support, discover brands that understand their needs and feel part of a safe, members-only community. For many people, disability can feel isolating, and I want Purpl to be a place where members feel understood, included and empowered.
3. What’s next for you?
What is next for Purpl is really exciting. We have already launched phase one of our community grant fund for members, which is the first step towards my longer-term vision of building a foundation that can give back directly to the disabled community.
That future foundation is a huge part of the mission. I want Purpl to help members access products, services and support that can improve their daily lives, especially when those resources are financially out of reach.
Alongside that, we are focused on growing Purpl into the go-to platform for disabled people in the UK and beyond. We want to bring more well-known brands on board, expand the range of discounts available, improve the member experience and keep developing the platform so it offers more than savings alone.
Long term, I want Purpl to become a trusted home for the community, a place where members can save money, access advice, find support, connect safely with others and feel represented. We have lots of exciting plans in development to help the community even more, so watch this space.
