From Survival to Sacred: How Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Healing at Dexter & Alessandrina

In a world that often demands we push through pain and power past our limits, there's profound medicine in learning to slow down, listen deeply, and honor our nervous system as a compass for truth. This is the foundation of the work at Dexter & Alessandrina—a healing practice born not from perfection, but from the messy, beautiful journey of transformation.
Founded by practitioners who understand firsthand the weight of trauma, the exhaustion of burnout, and the courage it takes to break free from patterns that no longer serve, Dexter & Alessandrina offers a refreshingly gentle approach to healing. Rather than viewing ancient spiritual wisdom and modern therapeutic practices as separate paths, they weave them together into an integrated experience that speaks to both the soul and the nervous system.
In this candid conversation, we explore the personal experiences that shaped this unique healing modality, the philosophy behind blending traditional wisdom with contemporary neuroscience, and the transformation that's possible when we stop trying to fix ourselves and start remembering our inherent wholeness. Whether you're navigating overwhelm, healing from trauma, or simply seeking a more authentic way of being, this discussion offers insights into a path that honors both the sacred and the scientific aspects of human healing.
What personal experiences led you to create Dexter & Alessandrina, and how do they shape your approach to spiritual guidance and healing today?
Dexter & Alessandrina was born out of a deeply personal journey—one that emerged not from perfection, but from navigating intense personal transformation and the desire to heal deeply grooved patterns and habits that no longer served me.
Growing up, I experienced a lot of emotional intensity and internal pressure to perform, please, and survive a deeply abusive and violent environment. Like many sensitive and high-functioning individuals, I learned to adapt and cope by intellectualizing my emotions and disconnecting from my nervous system. That survival strategy eventually became burnout as I had not understood that to find balance and poise, I needed to address my own nervous system dysregulation.
What's been consistently bringing me back into alignment isn't hustling, trying hard or pushing through—it's slowing down, learning to listen to my body and come back to myself, and honoring my nervous system as a compass for truth. Along the way, I met Dexter, and together we discovered a shared calling: to make healing more integrative, gentle, practical, and trauma-aware—less about fixing and more about remembering and embodying wholeness.
Living with ADHD traits, complex trauma and PTSD and the myriad of coping behaviors that come with that also informs my work. I understand how we often chase certainty or control when what we’re truly craving is safety, rest, and play. That insight shaped our signature approach: one that blends practical neuroscience, emotional attunement, somatic and nervous system regulation, and spiritual presence. We guide our clients from that same space—not as gurus, but as grounded companions who’ve walked the path and know the terrain.
Today, my coaching style is deeply intuitive, somatically anchored, and heart-led. I work with clients from a place of equality, curiosity, co-regulation, and compassion. I never rush transformation—I create safe containers and support for it to unfold in its own divine timing. Our goal with Dexter & Alessandrina has always been to help people find freedom not just in moments of stillness, but in how they live, love, and create beautiful things in the world.
How do you balance ancient wisdom with modern practices in your sessions and teachings?
My intention is always to view ancient wisdom and modern practices as two sides of the same coin, rather than through a dualistic or reductionist lens that separates them. At their core, both support us in returning to our authentic self and remembering who we are beneath our learned patterns and behaviors. They just use different languages that appeal to different brain types and cultures.
Ancient teachings tend to speak in terms of energy, presence, and the soul. Modern approaches—like somatic therapy, polyvagal theory, and parts work—speak in terms of the nervous system, regulation, and integration. But they’re often pointing to the same truths: that healing happens in safety, awareness brings transformation, and love and presence, which in a way could be equated to one another, are the most powerful medicine.
In my work, I bring the two together in a way that feels intuitive and trauma-aware. For example, where an ancient practice might focus on clearing energetic blocks, a modern lens might see that same process as unburdening a part or releasing stored trauma from the body. Where a spiritual tradition teaches breath as a pathway to presence, neuroscience shows us how breath directly affects the vagus nerve and helps regulate the nervous system. They’re not in opposition—they’re reflections of the same wisdom through different lenses.
So I don’t “balance” them so much as blend and weave them together honoring the flow of changes in states in my clients during our facilitation process. My sessions are a space where someone can honor their inner child and their higher self, where practical tools meet deep presence, and where healing is both grounded and sacred and is supported by opening our hearts to all that's possible now and in the future. That integration allows my clients to feel not just spiritually awakened and inspired, but also emotionally safe and empowered in their daily lives.
What transformation or impact do you hope each visitor to your platform walks away with?
Our deepest hope is that anyone who visits our platform leaves feeling more connected—to themselves, to their breath, to their nervous system, and to the part of them that already knows how to heal. Whether someone is moving through overwhelm, relationship stress, trauma, or simply craving more self-love, presence and peace, we want them to feel less alone, more resourced, and deeply seen and validated and that they really matter.
Right now, our website is undergoing a full revamp to reflect the evolution of our work more clearly and beautifully. In the meantime, the most accurate and heart-aligned portrait of what we offer lives on our Insight Timer account:
There, you’ll find a wide range of guided meditations, self-paced healing courses, and nervous system–supportive tools to help you reconnect to your truth in a safe, compassionate way.
Our intention is to offer insights, regulation tools, and emotional support that help people reconnect with their authentic self and feel truly empowered. We want them to know that healing doesn’t have to be hard, fast, or forceful. With the right support, it can be soft, wise, and intuitive. Just like you. And that it can feel safe to be our Authentic Self.
