Spotlight on Jordan Benston: Building Oracle Media and Shaping the Future of Production

Jordan Benston also known as JB, owner and founder of Oracle Media LLC “Oracle Media,” a Black female owned full-service production company, responsible for custom curated digital, linear, and editorial content. Oracle Media prides itself on results through its team of professional, dedicated, and established crew members, who provide production services for today’s biggest media companies and celebrities.

From her internship at BET, JB caught the production bug. Graduating with a major in Pre-Law and a minor in Philosophy from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, that production bug inspired her to move to NYC to begin her career in media. She has been influenced by Black female media heavy hitters such as Oprah Winfrey, Ava Duvernay, Issa Rae, and Lena Waithe. JB learned early on that “No matter how you start your life, you can always change your future. No matter how low you start, you can rise above it all if you believe in yourself and strive to be better.” As a small-town girl who grew up in Washington, NC to a big city media mogul in New York City on her way to the top, JB wants others to see her path and use it as a guide.

With a range of accomplishments already under her belt, JB has worked for some of the biggest media brands like, BET, MTV, VH1, REVOLT TV, and AppleTV+. JB has a steadfast five-year plan for Oracle Media to continue to create intriguing and riveting original content eventually including scripted series, docu-series, and documentaries.

As a mom of two and loving wife in her spare time she enjoys cooking and traveling, which are things she is looking to do more of as she expands her media empire.

Q: What inspired you to found {business} and what were the main challenges you faced?

I was inspired to start my business because I knew that there was a special quality that I bring to the table as a business owner with a wealth of knowledge in media production. The main challenges that I have faced is being intentional about gaining new clients

Q: Did you start the venture alone?

My business was birthed by a conversation with my mentor, Malik Buie. I had been telling him for a while that I was thinking about starting my own company. One day he put me on an email with his lawyer and Oracle Media was born.

Q: What's your business model, and how have you grown your revenue?

My business model is that "We specialize in results" one of the things that I've been known for as an individual is getting the job done. I started out just using myself and my skills to get the job done and as I produced results that exceeded my clients' expectations, I was then able to hire a team to help me grow and produce more content and garner more revenue.
