Racheal A. was tired of scrolling through endless gift guides and still coming up empty for the actual people in her life. That frustration became the foundation for [OhGiftPlease](https://www.ohgiftplease.com/?ref=foundedbywomen.org), a gifting platform built on a simple but overlooked idea: thoughtful gifting starts with paying attention, not with browsing a category like "gifts for women."

The mission goes further than curation. OhGiftPlease spotlights LGBTQ+, BIPOC, women-owned, and purpose-driven brands, built on the belief that who gets seen matters just as much as what gets given. Discovery is organized around personality, shared moments, and impact rather than broad labels, and belonging in the community never depends on making a purchase.

In this Q&A, Racheal talks about the insight that shaped OhGiftPlease's approach to curation, why "thoughtful" doesn't have to mean sentimental, and what's next as she launches the community-nominated search for 2027 Impact Brands and a new initiative called Let It Ripple.

Q: What inspired you to start OhGiftPlease, and how did you land on the idea that gifting is really about attention rather than consumption

OhGiftPlease started with the frustration of scrolling through endless gift lists and still struggling to find something that felt right for an actual person. I wanted discovery to feel fun again. Something that makes you laugh, reminds you of your favorite person, introduces you to an incredible creator, or gives you a reason to get people together. But the purpose goes deeper. In a world that gives us plenty of reasons to feel disconnected, I want to keep making room for joy, kindness, and celebrating what makes people different. Those things deserve our attention. That’s why OhGiftPlease brings together curated finds, stories, inspiration, and a spotlight on LGBTQ+, BIPOC, women-owned, and purpose-driven brands. Who gets seen matters. The person receiving a gift matters, and so does the person whose creativity made it possible. To me, thoughtful gifting begins with paying attention. Remembering someone’s ridiculous sense of humor. Recognizing something they care about. Making space for time together. A purchase can be part of that, but belonging in the OhGiftPlease community never depends on buying anything.

### Q: What’s a specific insight from building OhGiftPlease that speaks to the tension between endless options and thoughtful gifting?

Something I keep coming back to in my curation is how little a broad label tells you about someone. “Gifts for women” could describe millions of completely different people. It doesn’t tell you what makes your particular person light up.That’s why OhGiftPlease lets people explore through personality, shared moments, interests, and impact. A game-night find gives people something to do together. Something wonderfully weird can capture an inside joke. Discovering the story behind a brand can give an otherwise familiar item a whole new meaning. The useful part of curation is making those connections clear. Why this find? Who might love it? What makes it worth someone’s attention? And thoughtful doesn’t have to mean sentimental. Sometimes the thing that makes someone laugh hardest is the thing that shows you know them best. There’s room for beautiful, meaningful, useful, outrageous, and just plain fun. People contain all of that.

### Q: What’s next for OhGiftPlease?

I want to grow OhGiftPlease into a trusted place for discovery and a community people actively help shape—sharing their favorite finds, introducing creators, telling stories, and celebrating one another.I’m beginning the community-nominated search for our 2027 Impact Brands. I want to hear about the businesses people believe deserve more attention, then take the time to understand and accurately tell their stories.I’m also bringing that community spirit into everyday spaces through Let It Ripple, a free printable people can leave where sharing is welcome. It gives someone a small invitation to discover a little joy and pass it along. The thread through all of it is the same: good people and good ideas deserve to be found. I want OhGiftPlease to help that happen—and give people more reasons to laugh, connect, and see the good in one another.
